The Shun Classic knives are a beautiful example of Japanese craftsmenship and quality kitchen knives.  They feature a VG-10 Stainless Steel Blade that's made to be less brittle, harder and more flexible than traditional steel formations.

The VG-10 blade is clad with 16 layers of high carbon steel on each side for a total of 33 layers.  This gives it a unique look similar to Damascus steel, but without its tendency to rust.

The handle is made from ebony colored Pakkawood, and waterproof resin veneers, giving the knife a very traditional feel.  The D-shaped handle design aids with grip and prevents the knife from turning during use.

Since these knives are styled for Japanese and Asian users they're recommended only for those with smaller hands.  Also you may want to note that they are hand specific with their D-shaped handle.

Actual Customer Feedback:

"I have small hands and I love to cook. I've tried for 30 years to find just the right knives that handled well and did their jobs. These do it and then some. Too pretty and elegant to keep hidden, I look for excuses to use them."

"...After using the Shuns for a couple of months, I have come to the conclusion that the Wusthof Grand Prixs fit me better and feel sturdier."

Portion of Actual User Review From

"I've used a famous German brand of knives for years... but now they sit in the block collecting dust. The blade on the Shun is very sharp and holds an edge for a long time."

Our Research on Shun Classic Cutlery Suggests:

That these are a great set of knives for anybody with the money to purchase them.  They are a bit on the pricey side, but like any investment they pay off in the end with years of service, and time saved.

Before purchasing please consider the following.  First they're hand specific so if you have more than one kitchen mate make sure you all have the same dominant hand.  Second they're made for people with smaller hands.  Third they have a 16° angle vs. the German angle of 22° so if you're going to sharpen them yourself buy a knife sharpener that sharpens to that angle.
